COVID-19 Coronavirus Information
UPDATED: May 11, 2020 at 11:00 am EDT
It is our priority to ensure the safety and welfare of everyone under the A5 umbrella. USA Volleyball eliminated the sanctioning for all USA Volleyball activities until May 22. This is a very fluid situation that we are monitoring and discussing hourly. We are committed to keeping our A5 family informed, so this page will be updated frequently with details and answers as we have them. Below are some questions and answers as we try to address some immediate concerns.
Are practices canceled?
Currently all practices through A5 Volleyball, A5 Beach, A5 Gwinnett, A5 South and A5 Chattanooga have been canceled until further notice. USA Volleyball has eliminated the sanctioning of all USAV events including but not limited to events, practices, individual training sessions or anything covered by USA Volleyball insurance.
We are exploring all options to getting in the gym and will update periodically as more information becomes available.
Which tournaments have been canceled or postponed?
Every tournament in March and April has been cancelled or postponed. Given the fluidity of the situation, the rescheduling of tournaments and extending of season cannot be determined at this point.
Here is the current list of cancellations or postponements as it pertains to the A5 family.
- Shamrock Scuffle
- Rock the Mountain
- SRVA 18’s Regionals
- New Kids on the Block
- Battleground Explosion
- Mid East Qualifier Week 1 and 2
- Colorado Qualifier Week 2
- Pre-BSQ NAVC
- Atlanta Classic
- Northeast Qualifier Week 1
- Show Me Qualifier Week 1 and 2
- Southern Exposure - Cancelled
- Big South - postponed
- Kudzu Klassic
- Northern Lights
- Lonestar Qualifier
Should I cancel my out-of-state travel plans?
Flights and hotels purchased on your own for an out of state tournament in March and April should be cancelled. Specifics on those cancellations have been sent to each team.
Will the season continue and tournaments be rescheduled?
First, let us say it is our full intention to return to the season if at all possible. The positive signs of this are that many of the major tournaments around the country are rescheduling their events in May and June.
In a best case scenario, we are back in the gym at some capacity in the next month or so. For those teams ending their season at regionals, we would extend your season to mitigate the time lost, and tournaments would be rescheduled for every team. Because this is such an unprecedented situation, we would deal with every team individually on their plan moving forward.
Once we get a better grasp on the situation both nationally and in the volleyball world, we’ll communicate with you on a team by team basis. Until then, nothing is set in stone.
Will I receive a refund?
As mentioned, this is a fluid situation and we are monitoring updates and receiving information daily on tournament cancellation and potential recourse. As such, A5 leadership is taking every applicable measure to protect our members well-being, and to care for the ongoing financial needs of our vendors, coaches, and staff.
