2017 Wrap Up
August 29, 2017 - The A5 boys’ volleyball season just wrapped up in Columbus, Ohio at the 2017 Boys Junior National Championships. For the fourth year in a row, our 14’s team qualified Open, making them one of top 36 teams in the country. Our 18’s team also had a strong year, making the finals in a number of tournaments, and winning the SRVA championship. The 16’s had a successful year as well, despite not having a player over 6 feet tall and having to play up one or two age groups in most of the tournaments.
We welcomed a number of new players to the boys program in 2017, and we expect to do the same in the coming year. We will be actively recruiting during the summer as well as the fall middle school league. Our open door policy will continue up until tryouts, and we expect that many of our new players will come from the boys training classes held July-September at the Southern Volley Center in Roswell, along with the boys’ camp to be held August 12-13.
Men’s volleyball continues to grow rapidly at the collegiate level. In fact, I had no less than a dozen college coaches contact me this spring about players from our senior class who might be interested in playing at the next level. We had a small class of 2017, but one of our new middles this year will ‘walk on’ at NYU in the fall, and we expect a number of players from the 2018 class will be playing in college.
We look forward to seeing everyone in the gym over the summer. Tryouts will be here before we know it!
