A5 16 Scott Wins Second Consecutive National Championship Tournament

Six Teams Make it to the Championship Bracket at USAV Nationals;
A5 16 Scott Joins A5 South 15 Joe as Gold Medalists
A5 Family,

Whew!  What a season.  We will include a post-season wrap in coming weeks, but this newsletter will highlight the performance of our (20!) teams at USAV Nationals in Detroit over the past two weeks.

Those who attended both have learned there is a big difference in the level of competition at USAV Nationals as compared to AAU.  Anyone can enter AAU's, but teams must qualify to enter USAV Nationals.  Here is an illustrative example:
  • A5 16 Gabe was seeded 17th of 48 teams in the 16 Open Division in Detroit.  They finished their initial pool play with a 3-2 record and a 1.02 point ratio (meaning that they allowed about as many points to be scored against them as they scored versus their opponents).
  • At AAU's, 16 Gabe was seeded first.  They didn't come close to dropping a set until their ninth match of the tournament, which they lost to KIVA in three sets.  Their final point ratio was about 1.5, meaning they scored three points to their opponents' two.
The takeaway here is that USAV Nationals are much more competitive than AAU's and there are few if any "gimmes".  For every one of our 250 or so athletes who earned the opportunity to compete at USAV Nationals, there were 1000 girls sitting at home who would have given their right arm to be in Detroit.  So congrats to all who competed.  Here is their  story.

A5 Volleyball Club: Teaching life lessons through the sport of volleyball.

In 2015, each one of our 1 teams qualified for USAV Nationals at the highest competitive level offered (Open for 13s and above and National for 12s), an accomplishment replicated by only one other club in the country.
