The Prestigious Bluegrass Classic is Arguably the
Best Preparation for the Qualifier Season Available
A5 Family,

The most exciting month-and-a-half of the season is upon us -- the Qualifier season. Our teams hope to have a mini-peak in March and April to enable them to bring home a coveted bid to Nationals.  They then peak once more for the AAU and/or USAV National Championship tournaments in June.

A5 turned more than a few heads at the ultra-competitive Bluegrass tournament in Louisville last weekend.  That tournament is one of the few during the season in which we face JVA and AAU sanctioned teams rather than USA Volleyball, and we acquitted ourselves well. Read on for details.
A5 15 Bob, A5 16 Gabe & A5 17 Jing Dominate Open Division in Louisville

A5 15 Bob, competing with several sick and injured players on the sidelines, tripped out of the gate and lost their second match 13-15 to national powerhouse, Munciana.  Worse, they found themselves in a three-way tie for first place in their pool, resulting in their being relegated to third place on the basis of point percentage.

No problem, though; all they did was win the next six matches, including a 25-13; 25-14 dismantling of their opponent in the Championship Match to win the 15 Open Championship.  We are seeing this more and more as the season progresses-- where our teams are winning late into a tournament because they are deeper and in better shape than their opponents.

A5 16 Gabe demonstrated how difficult it is to defeat the same opponent twice in a given tournament.  They handled NKYVC easily in pool play, but lost to them in the Championship Match to finish with a silver medal.  They also won the MMM Award ("Most Memorable Match") by coming from a 10-14 deficit to beat national powerhouse Sports Performance 17-15 in the semifinal match.  That match also won them  "IAOTIO" honors.

A5 17 Jing was taken to three sets just once in their march to the 17 Open Championship. Included in that run was a two-set win over the 4th-ranked team in the country.

Also worthy of note:
  • 7 of 8 A5 teams entered in the tourney finished in the gold division
  • A5 13 Earl finished 3rd of 24 teams in the 13 Premier division
  • A5 15 Victor finished 3rd in the 15 Classic division
  • A5 South 14 Josh finished 3rd in the 14 Club division
  • GA5 14 April finished 3rd in the 14 Classic division
We are well prepared for the qualifier season.  Let's bring home some hardware!
Parsons Chooses Kennesaw State

Please join me in congratulating Claire Parsons (A5 17 Scott) on her verbal commitment to play volleyball at KSU upon her graduation in high school in 2020.  The Owls, as you probably know, are perennial contenders for the Atlantic Sun Conference championship.

Claire is the 14th member of the class of '20 to commit to play at the Next Level.  Congratulations on finding your Perfect Fit
