Seniors Look Toward College in Emotional Farewell to A5 Friends, Families and Coaches
While Most of the Clubs in the Southern Region Have Completed Their Seasons, 35 A5 Family Teams' Seasons Are Still in Full Swing, Resulting in 7, 8 or 9 Weeks of Additional Training & Competition
A5 Family,

We've tried multiple events over the years to celebrate the season and give our Seniors - some of whom have been with us for ten years - the send-off they deserve.  For many years we put on a clubs-wide banquet, but as our club grew, so did the banquet, and it became too big and too expensive to continue.  We evolved to a senior banquet, and then a junior-senior banquet, which were well-received, but not all-inclusive, as a few players and families inevitably were not able to attend.

This year each of the clubs is having their own Senior Night.  GA5's is in the books, A5's was held last night (Tuesday) and A5 South will hold theirs at 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday).  A5-ers might be interested in checking out this video created by Conor Lounsbury, which debuted last night.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to seniors and  their families for being part of the A5 Family, and we look forward to following your exploits at the Next Level.
Nelson/Dennis California-Bound

We are pleased to inform you that the Beach National Team of Hannah Nelson and Colson Dennis has earned a regional bid to the USA National Beach Tour Championships in Manhattan Beach, California this summer.

They placed 3rd out of 55 teams at the U16 division of the 2019 national beach tour qualifier "Beach Fest" in gulf shores this past weekend.

Congrats!
Fridays at Four is BAACCCKKKK!

This ultra-popular program is for the youngsters with little or no volleyball experience aged 8 - 11. Run by A5 11-1 Coach Walter Patterson, F@F features skills instruction and game-like drills.  It is held at SVC every Friday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., commencing Friday, May 16th. Cost is $10/person.  First-timers are charged just $5, and those who bring a first-time friend are also charged just five bucks.  Can't beat that!

No registration is necessary. Just show up in gym shoes and knee pads (if you have them) and prepare to fall in love with the most popular women's sport in the land.  Guys, you're welcome too.

Questions?  Contact Walter Patterson directly.
A5 Minis Are Back as Well

One of the secrets to A5's success has been our focus on the Youth.  The minis convene for just an hour beginning this Wednesday (5/8) from 4 to 5 p.m. and extending for the next four weeks.  The Minis are even younger than the F@F group, focusing on the 5 - 8-year-olds, with an occasional 4-year-old in attendance as well.

Inexpensive...  no long-term obligation....  great coaching by our youth specialists.... THERE IS NO BETTER WAY FOR A YOUNG BOY OR GIRL TO DIP HIS OR HER TOE INTO THE WATER TO SEE IF THEY LIKE THE SPORT!

I counted fifteen youngsters at tonight's session. Questions?  Reach out to A5 Youth Director Grace Fossier..
Reminder -- High Academic Volleyball Showcase is just 31 Days Away

The brainchild of volleyball coach and semi-pro golfer Kurt Matthews, A5's High Academic Showcase was the first of its kind in the U.S. when it was introduced six years ago   Last year's event was termed a "10" by all of the coaches and players with whom we spoke.  Over 100 brainiac athletes were on hand to display their volleyball skills to 25 - 30 college coaches ranging from Division I programs like Florida State (they like smart players too!)  to smaller, academic-focused institutions like Birmingham Southern, Emory, Davidson, Berry, Sewanee and others. Many many of our athletes were first noticed by their eventual college coach at this event.

Visit the website for more info, to include registration instructions.
Another Reminder -- Registration for A5 and Volleyperformance Summer Camps is Open and Sign-ups are Brisk

Want to know the best way to make an A5 club, or if you're already a member, to leap-frog your peers and make a higher-level team at tryouts this fall?  The secret is simple:  get in the gym!  A5, A5 South and Volleyperformance are offering dozens of options this summer for you to do just that.  Check them out, overlay the dates with your vacation plans, and register for the camps and clinic you think will best help you.  ...and if you are in doubt, talk to a coach.

See you in the gym!
Athletes in the News

Who'da thought?  The third of A5's many hundred alumni to play in an NCAA Division I Final Four is....  a BOY!  Or more accurately - a young man who was one of the mainstays on A5's Boys Program back in the day.

Please join me in congratulating Lewis University Redshirt Senior Julian Moses for his part in leading the Flyers to the Division I Men's Volleyball NCAA Final Four.  He joins Kelly Murphy (Michigan) and Caroline Welsh (Illinois) as our only graduates to date who have earned the high honor of competing in the semifinals of a Division I National Championship. As part of that journey Julian was named MVP of the MIVA Conference Championship Tournament.

We love to see our Alumni excelling at the Next Level!

A5 Volleyball Club: Teaching life lessons through the sport of volleyball.

We take our mission statement - "Teaching Life Lessons Through the Sport of Volleyball" - seriously and will always emphasize hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork, honor, character development and doing the right thing over "W's and L's", for we know that if we focus on imparting those important life skills to our athletes, winning will take care of itself.
