Coming off a gold medal in the Pan Am Cup, USA Volleyball has announced its 12-member women’s indoor volleyball roster that will compete in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. The women’s volleyball competition takes place Aug. 7-11.
Kentucky Volleyball playerand A5 Alum Gabby Curry has been named to the United States national team roster for the 2019 Pan American Cup and 2019 Pan American Games. It will be the first playing for the senior national team.
Team USA, ranked No. 3 in the world by FIVB and reigning Pan American Games champion, is grouped in Pool B with No. 4 Brazil, No. 11 Argentina and No. 13 Puerto Rico. Pool A has No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 18 Canada, No. 27 Peru and No. 29 Colombia. The U.S. opens round robin pool play on Aug. 7 against Argentina, followed by Puerto Rico on Aug. 8 and Brazil on Aug. 9. Semifinals and classification matches for places five through eight will be held on Aug. 10. The medal-round matches will be held Aug. 11.
Curry was an AVCA All-America honorable mention selection following her sophomore season after starting all 31 matches for the Wildcats at libero. The 2018 SEC Libero of the Year registered a team-high 4.36 digs per set which ranked fourth in the league a season ago en route to also earning All-SEC accolades. She produced 26 double-figure matches in digs and had eight with 20 or more digs. She also logged 26 aces, which was the fourth most on the team. She's appeared in every match during her two-year career as the Wildcats have won back-to-back league titles and advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinals each season as well.
